The result is closer to a small projector than a conventional table lamp, casting a defined circle of colour onto the surface below and a soft halo around it, which is where the eye-of-the-sky nickname comes from. The compact footprint leaves plenty of room on a crowded bedside table.

Four colour films are supplied with each unit, covering warm white, sunset red, blue purple and a multi-colour option. One sits in the lamp and the remaining three are spares, so the character of the light can be changed in seconds without buying anything extra. That makes it easy to move the lamp between a calm bedside setting and something more dramatic in a living room. Swapping films takes seconds and needs no tools or dismantling of the shade.

The crystal shade directs light downward, so the lamp is comfortable to sit beside without glare in your eyeline. It runs at 5V over USB with the LED source included and under 5W of draw, making it suitable to leave on through an evening. Chrome plating is polished evenly across the body and the base plate.

Design and Finish

Polished chrome and cut crystal is a deliberately reflective combination: the chrome picks up the colour of whatever film is fitted and throws it back, so the body of the lamp changes appearance with the light rather than staying a fixed colour. The egg form keeps the footprint small and gives the lamp a resolved shape from every angle, which suits a bedside or a desk where it is seen from the side rather than looked down on. Switched off, it reads as a small chrome ornament rather than as a projector, which is what allows it to stay out on a shelf permanently.

Using the Colour Films

The four supplied films are the reason to choose this over a fixed-colour lamp. Warm white is the everyday setting and the one that works as an ordinary bedside light. Sunset red is warmer and deeper and suits an evening in a living room or a bedroom. Blue purple is the coolest and most dramatic and reads well in a darkened room. The multi-colour film shifts across the projected circle and is the most decorative of the four. Changing a film takes seconds and needs no tools, so the lamp can genuinely be reset for a different mood rather than being stuck with the choice made at purchase. Keep the three spares together so they do not get separated from the lamp.

Lighting and Placement

Because the COB source is focused rather than diffused, this lamp puts a defined circle of light on the surface below it with a softer halo around the edge - which is a very different effect from a shaded lamp that fills a room. It rewards being placed on a plain surface where that circle can be seen: a bedside table, a console, a desk, a shelf, a windowsill. On a patterned cloth or a cluttered surface the projection is lost. Set it a little away from a wall and some of the halo lands on the vertical surface too, which doubles the effect in a small room.

Where It Works Best

Bedsides are the main use, since the downward shade direction keeps glare out of your eyeline when you are lying down and the low draw makes it comfortable to leave on. It also suits desks and home offices, living room side tables, shelves and consoles, dressing tables and windowsills. In a bar, restaurant or hotel setting the same lamp works as a table light where a projected circle of colour is part of the atmosphere. USB power means it runs from a laptop, a power bank, a plug adapter or a USB wall socket, so socket positions are rarely a constraint.

Practical Notes

At under 5W on a 5V USB supply, the lamp draws very little and stays cool enough to handle while lit, which matters for something that sits at hand height. Chrome shows fingerprints, so wipe it with a dry microfibre cloth rather than a damp one. Keep the crystal element clean, since the projected circle is only as crisp as the surface the light passes through. Store the spare films flat and somewhere dry, and handle them by the edges to avoid marking the surface that the light passes through.

Shade: crystal with polished chrome metal body

Light source: COB LED, included

Colour films: four supplied - warm white, sunset red, blue purple, multi-colour

Power: USB, 5V DC

Wattage: under 5W

Shade direction: downward

Finish: polished chrome, plated

//cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/1098/0622/3699/files/generated_52b838af-c493-4292-875f-ede48f751c20.png?v=1787429893
https://elumalighting.store/products/italian-designer-table-lamp-led-crystal-eye-of-the-sky-free-shipping-egg-shaped-lamps-living-bedroom-decor-light-night-projector
